Do you know what a transition lens is? I find that patients get progressive lenses confused with transition lenses. Which is entirely understandable due to the definition of the word and also how a progressive lens works.
A transition lens is actually photochromatic. This means that the lens changes colour when they are exposed to sunlight – UV light specifically. Traditionally the lenses change from clear to grey colour (like a sunglass lens).
The newest generation of Transition lenses 8 is available for our medium-impact prescription safety glasses. This is very exciting as the latest generation of Transition lenses works better in the Australian climate than the older generations. The original Transition lenses were designed for Europeans and worked much better in colder climates.
Transition lenses need UV light to change the colour. Therefore, these lenses do not change in the car as you have a UV shield in the windscreen. So, if you are a very light-sensitive person then photochromatic may not be the best option for you. You probably need a designated sunglass.
Another thing you should know about photochromatic/Transition lenses is that they have 100% UV protection even when they are clear. Also the colour changes faster in this type of lens if you have an anti-reflective coating on the lens.
This is due to more light getting through the lens.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
